DSShutDown 💖

DSShutDown is a tool to help you make sure Windows shutdown / reboot / sleep / hibernate and logoff your Windows system.

This is a dll based shutdown module, so you need to use a EXE as an injector. This is achieved simply by running an EXE file from within Setup. This is not recommended because the Setup program won’t check to see if it’s running properly (eg. you could run it from within another program like a batch file, so the shutdown routine can run).

Here’s a basic usage example:

Install the addon (exe) and register the a “Computer Shutdown” protocol.

Start the setup program and select “Add New…” then “Add Windows Program” and select the shutdown exe you’ve created.

You can also run this directly from within setup:

Run the “Application Install” dialog and select “New…” then “Add Windows Application”. Select the “DSShutDown” filename you’ve created.

This addon contains a DLL called CCSDSShutDown.dll which is a replacement DLL for the system to handle shutdown.

The CCSDSShutDown.dll exports 5 functions.

1. CCSDSShutDown::Activate(): this function is the handler for the shutdown protocol.This function is called when the shutdown protocol is received and will install the shutdown module on the system. Only a single shutdown module can be running at a time. If the shutdown module has not successfully installed the shutdown module will not be run.

2. CCSDSShutDown::Install(): this function should be the first and only install function to ensure the shutdown module runs prior to closing the application.

3. CCSDSShutDown::Deactivate(): if the shutdown routine was previously started the shutdown routine will be stopped and the DLL returned to the system. There is no need to call deactivate again if you’re just running from the setup program or you can call it from your own shutdown routine if desired. This is useful because the shutdown routine will be stopped for a system reboot or sleep.

4. CCSDSShutDown::Shutdown(): this function is the real shutdown handler and is the only CCSDSShutDown.dll function required

DeskshutDown is a simple plug-in which helps to shutdown Windows 2000 (and below) machines. When the plug-in is applied, a small icon appears in the notification area of Windows 2000 (and below), displaying a percentage which indicates the percentage of Windows processes which are to be closed.
